It is sooooo much easier to keep track of how long a player has been playing (reguardless of how well he gets by practicing) Than it is to keep track of "how good he is--or has gotten"

I agree with the statements that have been made about teams that practice. I have seen players come out to Velocity and practice, practice, practice, just to see them do very well in the next tournament. And thats the way it should be. In my opinion it would show favortism to the individual that didnt practice.

"he has been playing paintball as long as I have but he is really good (because he has been practicing) so it is not fair that I should have to play them"---geesh, there is no way that I, or anybody on the velocity board that is going to feel the pity.

This would be the equivilent of asking: "can we be matched up against a team that dosent practice as much as we do"???

Anyways, I will quit my rambling, but rest assured that the tournament classifications at Velocity WILL NOT be based on performance. They will be based on tournament experience/years you have been playing.
With that said, anybody wanting to play tournaments at Velocity need to take this to heart and realize that if you want to succeed in the tournament---then you HAVE to practice and get your game in gear.

I am NOT even going to try and keep track of every paintballers "performance" when it comes to playing in tournaments. In the last summer olympics if I was basing who was going to win the gold based on "performance"- I would have picked the USA basketball "dream team." And then of couse as we all know-- I would have been dead wrong. Maybe thats a stupid analogy, but thats kinda the way I see it.

*edit* I hope this dosent deter people from playing that were hoping that the classifications would be based on performance as well, but please understand that Velocity is trying to do what we feel is the best way for us, and the rest of the Utah tournament paintball community.

i just think its dumb to penalize a team for being good and playing out of state tournaments. Its just how things are in tournaments there is always going to be teams that are way better than others. Look at the pro bracket...Dynasty has been pwning in it for a few years now right? but there are no complaints saying they should make a Super Uber Pro division for dynasty and the other top pros to play in because they are too good and its not fair for the other teams that cant compete with them. This was my first year of tournametns and i ended up having to play nov in the UXPL no big deal cause we still got first but, common first year tourney play, techincally i could have been a beginner. I just think its not fair to put a team up a higher level then their classifications says.

Dan you have a good point...but they actually made it in NPPL so that Pro teams will only play pro teams. Semi-pro and below is another deal.

Agreed... don't penalise people for being more dedicated.

First off u don't have to keep track of performance. Your
performance would be based on how u did in the preliminaries, not on any previous tournaments.
That would put the best 6 teams against the best at that tournament and so on down the line. Nothing to do with how you've played before.
My thoughts were if a team practiced once or twice a week and went to play in the XPSL and NPPL they would want to play the best teams at their level in the local tournaments. Not some teams that play once a week or once a month and play in local tournaments for fun and don't have any aspirations of going any further.
So say u play in a rookie tournament this winter and it's your first and only till Velocities this spring. Does that make u a novice? That is the kind of questions I was trying to avoid. Or u play a yr of young guns three man, does that make u a nov the next year?
I'm not trying to offend anyone, I've played this format numerous times in different sports and found it extremely competitive. It's just food for thought.

One last comment, the NPPL already does this to an extent. correct me if I'm wrong. During the course of the year the bottom 3 pro teams get sent down to the semi's and the top 3 semi-pros get sent to the pro's. Basically the same idea only on a smaller scale.
They are trying to keep the same skill levels in the same brackets.

The only problem I see with that is that you have a huge seperation between what makes you good in each of the different levels. Granted they are the same things (i.e. practice, skills, players, etc.) but as you progress you get better. You can't say that a rookie team that does really well in the rookie division will have any hope of a chance against a open class team. For example, look at what happened at the Utah Summer Games this year. You had teams that had never played a team playing some of Utah's best. Even the teams that rolled other rookie teams where decimated by the lower open class teams. What happens if the top teams in the rookie/beginner class win by the luck of the draw or because of crappy calls or whatever reason besides being good? That doesn't put them on the same level as other level teams. How do you say that is fair?

I don't think it is fair to say that just because you perform well in the prelims you should play up. You may be the best rookie player, but that doesn't make you the best open or am player!! Also if I practice every week, run drills, and work my arse off, why can't I win in the division I qualify for? I may not have taken sixth in the upper division, but I can tell you that I am super happy to take first in the lower division. Besides, the next year I have to play the next division anyways, which means I have to continue to practice and make myself be the best that I can be.

Basing classifications on performance or how much a team practices would be dumb not only because teams that work hard would be penalized and move up, but there are other teams that don't even practice that do well and would be playing in a low division if it was based on practice/performance. So it can go both ways. As far as Vangogh's way of puting the top 6 teams together because the teams that don't practice need a achance or whatever wouldn't work, because most of the teams that don't practice need the money and would rather place higher with more prizes to help financially. Sorry if this didn't make much sense, but the poin is performance is to hard to judge and even if it could be it would still be dumb.

What can I say I don't like cheaters 🙂

ya thats called seeding. it is so those lowere teams play lower teams. you are right but you dont make them change divisions and you dont want to throw everyone in the same division.
