Thats all I feel that could have been improved upon. Organization could have also been a little better. Other than that, get your refs to become knowledgeable and accustomed to the rules, and this series could go far. It will go even farther if you do become a true affiliate of the PSP, create room for more high quality fields such as the current field, and advertise your PSP affiliate to surrounding states.

I appreciate what you are trying to say, but do you truely understand that this was our third X-ball event?? Organization.. as soon as you think you have a grasp on it.. something else will happen, its just the way it is unless you have a lot of $$$ for multiple back-ups and more staff. But like I have said before... at $150 a team and $45 for premium paint, we make VERY little. But, we do that for the players and to introduce them into a new series. Then you have to take into consideration of how big an X-ball field really is. To double the playing field from what it is now and run another official X-ball field, on grass, (as it is right now) would probably put us out of business. Its still young, and we are growing, but those type of things take years to establish and a lot of money. Especially when you are trying to establish a player base.

Then there are other things to consider... whether or not you want to go that far, and fork that much money, and go through the physical and mental stressors that go along with it... when there are some who will look for the weak spot and exploit it, and criticize it-- as has been done in this thread.

I dunno, you tell me

I just dont know if I want to post anymore in this thread. I would much rather talk about these things in person.

Anyways, thanks for your input

Jason

Yeah, I guess you cant. But I guess you cant expect anyone to read anything if they really want some understanding on the subject.

Do I have to call each and every individual that "might, or might not" play so I can give them the information???

Like I have said in the last two posts... Call me if you truely want to help, and have any positive perspectives on how we can make our tournaments better.

I understand what you are saying. I work in paintball, and I have reffed events, and I do know what you are saying. Money is a huge factor. I understand you are trying to get people used to x-ball, and to do that you need to lower costs. Thats great you are doing it for the players. I was just saying what you could possibly do if you put money into your tournament series. Although, seeing how you arent making that much money it would be impossible to do that. Also, if I remember correctly, you have never put on a series before this year. Organization is near impossible to reach in three tournaments. An example: The uxpl has only been around a few years, they may have much greater organization they used to have, but there are times when it is not organized. I know this, because I currently ref them. Organization comes in time. No event is perfectly organized. Although there are tournaments that are very well organized, they are not perfect. Just keep doing what you guys are doing, and improve upon certain aspects, and I know that other people, and I will return to these events to have fun.

Maybe!

"will go even farther if you do become a true affiliate of the PSP, create room for more high quality fields such as the current field, and advertise your PSP affiliate to surrounding states."
Goldberg,
Velocity Paintball has and is evaluating the waters of "X-ball tournaments." Even though we have had some success with the tournaments, the numbers and sponsorhips have been dropping off for the NPPL and PSP tournaments across the nation. It would be foolish to advance the X-Ball tournaments very fast or put in another field at this time. This state is conservative by nature. Some people don't understand the $6,000 to $7,000 cost of X-ball tournament bunkers, the field maintainence, the logistics, the total time element (clean-up, prep time) ref costs, insurance, paint costs, air set-ups, etc, etc. This is why we are moving slowly with the X-Ball and the individuals at PSP understand this.

Thanks for the comments..

We will certainly always do our best to improve and make these events fun and as organized as possible. Even with just 3 events, we have learned a tremendous amount!

👍

i didnt mean to sound like i was complaining. I honestly just wanted to know about the flag rule and i did not know that you had to be moving with the flag. now i know. thanks for teaching me.

Dan is right though. The event was way fun. I didnt expect prizes and i just heard xball and i was way excited. It was very fun and it kept the real feel and intensity as the real deal without having to use a ton of paint like actual xball. The tournament ran smoothly and it was awesome. The only thing i would suggest is more reffs and allowing participation of the crowd. And maybe having the actual coach on the field on the opposite side. That is how the psp is set up. And maybe someway of getting a large timer or even a scoreboad up. I know thats pricy but maybe there is a cheaper alternative. Great event though was a lot of fun. All the teams did really well. GREAT JOB TO ALL THE EVENT STAFF!

This event was great i did not mean to sound like i didnt enjoy it just because of some calls and such. EVERY tournament has bad calls and good calls. I recall FEZ commenting on a couple of the reffs and how they were making very good calls. I will be at the next one for sure prize or no prize!

Ok I did some research. We may have worded it differantly but here is that the rulebook says about it.
Quote:
4.6.3. A player in possession of a flag who hides or attempts to hide the flag from plain view will
be assessed a minor penalty.
If the player stops to hide behind a bunker (i.e. not runnung for the goal) I would consider them pulled for a minor penalty.

Hope this helps shed some light on things.
