A study published last year in the journal Pediatrics found that eye injuries from paintballs had increased dramatically. At least 1,200 children were treated in emergency rooms for such injuries in 2000; there were less than half that many in 1998.

-Still, its not a very happy statistic to look at. And I guarantee that most of these accidents are happening in the back yard or somewhere else that is not supervised.

It really bothers me that people use paintball markers to do things like this. It really hurts the sport. Listen to what the stepfather now says about paintball.

I agree with you. paintball is under the microscope because it looks like it's real. We go to great lengths to make our markers look and act real. Woods ballers dress like real warriors. Also the other problem is the only serious injury one can get in painball is to loose an eye.

When some 12 year old kid takes off his mask and shots himself in the eye it draws a lot of public attention. Other sports you break things, arms, legs, back, ribs or tear tissue, but you get to keep both of your eyes. 😲

It critical that we as players, field owners,and producers provide for saftey. proper netting, plugs, socks and keeping your mask on is th only way to avoid disaster. As for back yard play ...Wear a mask !!!
