We aren't trying to educate people through this thread....we are brainstorming and discussing what the most effective way is to educate the public

I agree, at least in part, with the findings in this article. Details of current paintball safety issues will be posted on the website: www.paintballindustry.org.

This part of the article caught my eye the most, especially this part:
"A recent article, Injuries from paintball game related activities in the United States, indicates that there may be a safety problem involving paintball "home play".

Generally if I hear or read of an injury related to paintball its related to home injury or "backyard" "outlaw" play that is unsupervised.

I have generally not had a negative outlook on outlaw play, but I think from now on, its probably more important to look at the future safety of paintball and say "I am not going to support it unless it is reffed or "supervised" by SOMEONE, who is responsible. Someone who is NOT actually playing.

And really in my opinion there really shouldnt be an exception to this unless it is a small group of people who you trust, and know follow safety rules.
I know at Velocity we have not always been perfect in making sure safety rules are enforced, but we are going to get better as time goes by.

I actually think this is the best way to combat this situation.

P.S. Myself and Velocity are MORE than willing to hold a safety workshop at Velocity next year and even give some discount coupons to come out and play. And I urge the other local fields, and stores to maybe offer the same thing if at all possible. I just think it is going to be hard to get people to come to a "safety workshop" unless there is a perk. (aside from maybe you will learn something that will save your eyes, or life one day) 🙄

Please for give the sharpness of my comments but what in the #$%^ do think internet forums are for? 😕

1/2 of what I know about PB has come from converstaions like this one on several diffrent forums. I will agree that some of the time on 801 there is just mindless banter.

But this thread has evolved into a conversation about paintball saftey.
Please contribute!!!
End Rant 😲

Outlaw games are hard to control. It could be just 6-8 friends playing or it could be several groups joing togather...hard to control.

I would suggest that if a person is ever incharge or invited to a game that they make sure there is a chrono station and everyone uses it. Have a start time and go over the rules. Have a safe zone at least a few hundred feet from the game play area and keep your mask on durring play even if your in the safe zone. If a pick up game feels unsafe then leave.....while you can still see.

At Spec ops field in Bountiful they have a big sign with all the rules on it and everyone that wants to play has to stand there while the field marshal reads the rules. I think signs are a good way to help enforce the rules. If someone breaks the rules it's easy for the ref or whoever to point to the big sign and give a reminder.

As suggested above it might be possible to hold a saftey class at a local field or shop. But it will take some inducement to get people there. I know Allen has offfered tech and saftey classes at his shop but few players have taken advantage of it.

Other Ideas? 😎
