Most new players have a problem with keeping the gun tight in against their bodies. Try to keep the tank up against your shoulder. Keep you loader tilted towards your bunker vs. leading out with you loader. And put your nose right behind your gun, it will help keep your head from coming out too soon or too late, and improve your accuracy. One last thing, is dont gun fight. If your a new player, chances are the guy your going head to head with is better than you. If he has the post on you, tell a teamate to pick him up, and shoot at someone else 🙂 Good luck man. Have fun out there.

Hmmm

The biggest mistakes i see new players make is

A) shooting over the top of a bunker. Try working the sides unless u have no alternative

B) Coming out in the same place all the time, choose a different spot to shoot from each time.

C) Not shooting enough. Some players just don't shoot enough to be effective.

I'd have to disagree with C) not shooting enough.

It all depends on what tactics you're using. if you need to pin someone so that your team mate can flank them, let it fly. but if you have to shoot of 300 rounds to take out one guy then you need another hobby. I mainly play scenario and recball so my tactics are to get as close as possbile and nail the sucker, not "spray and pray" like i see a lot of other people trying to do.

Sure you'll get the guy out, eventually. But you just wasted 15 bucks worth of paint and air for one guy. Try to be more accurate and clever than anything else. Anybody can pick up a marker and rip off a hopper of paint. But to be truly effective and respected, (in my opinion and many others) if you can manuever in and take out the guy with a few shots then that is the stuff talent is made of. Plus it's a lot more excitng when you're 40 feet from the guy as opposed to 100 feet hoping one of your 300 rounds wil hit him on the gun.

Being a scenario player I've played with both kinds of people, and the people who like to think that their speedball tactics of spray and pray will work everywhere are just boring and annoying. My team schools those people all the time when we pop up 30 feet away BEHIND them and take them out, or nails them after firing only a few shots from farther away.

I'm certainly not dogging speedballers, I have friends who prefer it. But too many of them close their minds to any other kinds of tactics. They see the pro's out spraying paint like it's free (it sometimes is) and think that's how you're supposed to always play. Never mind the fact they've given their lives to the game and since they're all so good it comes down to more volume plus their highly effective tactics.

Ultimately, the only time you're not shooting enough is when you don't take the shot at all.

Sir,

You are "dogging speedballers" or better known as tourney players. No worries...though.

U - N - I - T - Y !!!

If you do have friends who play Tournament Format then you should be aware of all the positions on a Tourney Team: Back; Mid and/or Mid Insert, Front...and they all have different responsibilities regarding the amount of paint they shoot.

As well as in woodsball and/scenario like the SPPL which also has position for their team players and again the amount of paint they shoot.

Furthermore, some tactics are different due to the natural bunkers (trees, and bushes); plus "man-made" bunkers that are used in scenario play; compared to Tourney bunkers which are only "man made" and/or synthetic.

Plus Tourney Venues are in a limited area where as woodsball venues could possibly be in vast amount of acres; exception SPPL format.

But again...there are some general basic tactics that both formats use for all there players...which I believe Derek alluded, too.

So my point is IT ALL DEPENDS ON FORMAT; POSITION AND SITUATION, AND THAT ALL IMPORTANT - LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE.

...hence the original question of this thread.

Update: FYI: Some Tourney players play with pumps...like the upcoming UXPL Pump Division...definitely more accuracy then volume of paint

...and now we return you to your local broadcasting station

....this has been brought to you by your friendly neighborhood PB.

Out...lata

😎

i never said my friends were tourney players, just that they play speed ball. please don't put words in my mouth.

And much like you're comments I was arguing the other side, not simply trying to disprove Derek's blanket statement. I fully realize why some positions have to spray paint in speedball, but to insinuate that people who don't put out a lot of paint aren't effective period is simply wrong and misleading.

I was not dogging speedballs or tourney players in genereal, only the amateurs who think that to be "effective" you need a marker that sprays 20+ rounds a second and have to use a 2000 round case in 10 minutes. All too often I see people who think speedball is THE definition of paintball and that you HAVE to put out a lot of paint to be effective no matter what the situation is. So they go out and drop $2,000 on an angel just to have it break because they didn't try to start small and actually learn the sport.

Perhaps Derek did mean in his statement that too often people are afraid at first and do not get out and actually play but sit and hide instead, I don't know. But simply saying newbies don't shoot enough is much too broad a statement to provide any real information.

I'm not trying to start any fights or anything and I apologize if it sounds like it, I just want people to know that there is much more to the sport of paintball than how much volume of paint you can spray. Because if you're not ready yet to shell out a ton of cash for this great sport you need to know there's more than one way to play.

lol

King,

I totally understand what your saying. Some good points. I agree with you that sometimes paint volume is abused. Allow me to clarify.

I play pump frequently and suppression is every bit as important part of the game. Regardless if its one ball or 20 its important to stay in control of the firefight. You can only ambush so many people before they realise where you are and then close shooting skills kick into place. The mistake kids make is not placing the balls in the right places and depending on speed alone.

In my expierence The ambushers(snipers) and while they have their place don't change games, paintball is to fast paced. The people who win games, are the killers the guys who take it to the other team and control them. Just my two cents.

My final point is that lately many scenario players are trying to suggest that the games are so different they cannot be compared. I came from the woodsball generation and thats simply not true. I won national ranked nppl titles in florida and Vegas in the woods ball format. Recently we played other scenario teams in the sppl format, and while they had great players, we beat them realtivly easily. Why? Because they thought we couldn't play their game, and they did not know how to suppress another team with firepower. The basic foundation of both games is the same.

There are many ways to play paintball and until he gets to the point where he is happy with the style of play he wants to play.My advice is to listen to everyone, try what they suggest and take what he likes and leave what he doesn't.

There is no wrong way to play paintball, if it works for you thats all that counts.

Derek
