Scenario Paintball Players League

Its offical, from the Specops site, Regional play is at Play Velocity on July 15th

So we need to get the team set up to play. I talked with Kamikazee, and Gen. Packer we need to form a team.

I will be there on Memorial day at 10 looking to have a meeting with those interest.
Its a team of 10 but would like to have 13 total for back up players. But overall we can be larger and play squad teams at scenario games.

So if your interested come one, come all. Lets paly with honor and kick butt.

If your not sure check out Specops site and the SPPL, or drop me a line here on the forum.

Hmmm

The gun rules seem interesting, almost if they are trying to discourage the real tournament players from playing. Might stimulate pump play, i guess.

Will be intresting to see how this works out.

Remember though, 1 hour game a 10000 round limit for whole team.

We are harkening back to woods ball with tactic, honor, and smart play. Not just laying down 20 bps till he is hit.

Your are correct they are discouring the speedball player. But make no mistake this is a "Real" tournament for woodsball players. The competion will be sharp. with 10,000 rounds per team that's 1000 round per player, to win this it will take skill, taticts, speed and great leadership.

This is not a 5 min paint spraying contest. While many of the skill cross over the trigger happy team will be out of paint in the 30 min.

I am not bagging on Airball, I think it's a great sport and fun to watch (never played) many of the same skills apply. A good speedball player willing to play with a Tippman and lean to conserve paint would do well

Having played both

Having played both types of tournament ball, i can promise you that modern tournament paintball takes all the skill and more than it ever did when we played in the woods.

The movement to "speedball" came about due to the difficulties to keep fields even for both teams and easier to Reff. When ever there is money on the line you are going to have bad apples that will bend the rules. Based on the size and structure of the game the S.P.P.L. will have to blanket the field with reffs (try finding a hit on a dishonorable player wearing ghillie?)or suffer the same problems we did when we played in the woods (cheating).

This league will have zero affect on how "honorable" a player will be, they either are or they aren't it has nothing to do with the format they are playing in.

To ban regular tournament guns but allow electric tippmans or spyder is an obvious ploy to sell their own equipment and get backing from sponsors. If your going to ban a marker because its electric you better ban them all, or better yet do the bps cap that real leagues are using.
(Special weapons? how many reffs will you need to ensure that they see every shot fired from it on a field this size?)

The concept is a nice idea even if it is a bit unrealistic on how the players will handle the oppurtunities to bend the rules. Good luck to them i hope it works out. I hope they have a lot of reffs and nothing but tolerant players.

Skills

Derek
You make some great point. you are correct that a leage or rules will not make a player more or less honest. an honest player play by the rules and a cheater will most likely cheat.

Skills and talent are universal, if you have smarts, speed, agility and desire there are a lot of sports one can excell at.

Spec ops is in my humble opnion tring to create some new excitment about woods ball. They promote it, have spent a ton of $$$ on cosmetic mods and upgrades, offering clothing and other options that other wise would not be avaible to the woods player.

Yes it will be hard to ref, yes there will be some cheating and some heated arguments over money. But if they want to put up 12 grand in prizes and travel all over the country putting on regional events and then invite the winners to UT and have a national event ...I say great do it.

THere is no question that they are promoting their stuff and their markers and upgrades...that is what sponsoring a tourment is all about selling more stuff. As far as the gun ban I can see if I had an e-marker and could'nt use it I would be pissed too.

Again good points, I enjoy a good discussion. (have we met?)

Not sure...but i have been plying in Utah for the last 15 years so if you have played around here we probaly have met before.

Oh i think your right i think that this could be a badley needed change fro other people to try. Many of the scenario players at my field are excited about it so we will probaly sponsor a team into it...

Im betting that the rules will change for the special weapons and ghille almost immediatly, though.

There should be great support because this is a tournament series created for the players not only locally(BTW in Utah there are very few competitions available and there never has been one that has given away anywher near the $12,000 in prizes to first place and the same to the team voted for sportsmanship that the SPPL does), but also Nationwide with high media and industry coverage and a Phenomenal prize package that is over $30,000.
