Watching Paintball

Ive givin this alot of thought.......the only way paintball is going to be as big as other sports is if it is spectator freindly. When my mom went to the last tournament i played in she said she couldnt realy tell what was going on becuase she could only see 1 side of the feild. She said it would be much funner if she could see from higher up, so she could see the whole feild. give me your input....

Just go to a skyball tourney, lol, j/k bro. But the only reason why we don't do it is because those things cost a buttload a' money.

Ya I agree with you in that it would be nice to have each field surrounded by bleachers so that spectators can watch, but as impy said it costs a but load of money, and I dont want that money to come from my pocket by raising say the entry to the event to cover the cost of the bleachers.

I personaly don't mind if the entrance fee is more money but I would rather that money go to better prizes instead of bleachers. I am there to play and have fun like all the teams out there. And winning is nice too. But I am one of those spectators that walks around the field instead of just sitting there.

Spectators

I have given the spectating and Video issue allot of thought.
IMO there is no easy answer to improve spectating or better TV coverage.

Bleachers are helpful but they dont raise spectators enough to see what is happening on the entire field. If the bleachers are huge like at NPPL then you are further away and its hard to see the small things on the field.

In order to see the entire field and what is happening tacticly you would need to be over top of the field looking down. That is not a practical position for viewing.

More overhead cameras might work for TV/DVD productions, sky cams and what not.

I am not sure how to improve the awareness of non-players (Moms, Dads, Girlfriend, Wife, etc)
The action is SO fast and often subtle quick moves win games.

You cannot announce the action because it might advantage one team or the other, besides the action is so fast there is not the pacing that exists in other sports where you can announcing things.

Anyway its an issue that so far I see no anwers to...

You know if we had NPPL sized bleachers, I wonder if the Angel girls would be dancing on them like they were at the Denver event? That would be ok with me!!

Unless the major tournament scenes change the rules, people will need to know before hand how the game works and is played. Which is a bummer because it limits the ability to get the people from off the street, who have no idea how paintball is played, to understand and get interested in the sport. I think it would be a good idea to have a summary page that could be handed out to those who want to know more. It could explain the game format, common terms used and even show a picture of the bunker and what the name of it is. It would be a great aid for parents, grandparents or spectators who are not tournament paintball experienced.

Just state the obvious to em' next time, and sometimes the truth hurts, cuz they wanna see you, but they can still see something's from behind the netting.
