Honestly...... because the rules say so.

The rule was designed, in part, to eliminate exactly what you suggested doing, leaving a hit item on the ground to stay in the game. For example, a player gets hit in the hopper, gun, pack, whatever. They simply toss it on the ground before a ref gets to them and then argue that the item was hit after they had dropped it. So by that logic, they are not out. See the problem now?

If you could just drop "hit" items that would make paintball about as gay as laser tag. only having certain areas that can be hit.

ya it would. The only disposable items are pods right? so if you dropped your gun intentionally you would be out right there. If the ref saw you just "set" your gun down that would be intentional. right?

I'm not as smart as Cory and others, but from my knowledge you would be pulled for that in the tourneys that I have been accustomed too. You can only dispose of pods and squeegees, like we said above.

Pods are disposable. You dump your paint and tossem. . If your hopper falls off. I think you usually try to retrieve it. refs usually won't do anything if your trying to get it back. Full pods and hoppers that get shot i don't know about. I've never been in that situation. Insanepain. If your hit get off the field or you'll get more painful love taps.

If a full pod is on the ground and is shot and then picked up the player who picked it up is out, but full pods are still disposable.

It's really up to the ref. If you dropped your gun and ran for a flag or something, you'd probably get pulled, I'd pull you if I was reffing.
😁

However, if you set your gun down in your bunker and don't leave that magic 5' range or were putting it down to clean it, or just not to hold it for a minute (no idea why somebody would do that), then I probably wouldn't pull you out. However, if it got hit while it was out of your hands, you'd be out.

Most common disposable items:
Pods (full or empty)
Squeeges
Rags

Check out the rule book(s) for the league(s) you're going to play in, it'll help you.
