Derek since we all seem to be noobs according to you, just how far is this "long range" shot? π Cuse the max range of a PB shot a 300 FPS 5ft off the ground at a 2 degree angle is about 160 feet. If you want to loob it at a target (a 25 degree angle) then about 300 ft is the range but the ball is only moving at 60 fps so a break is unlikley. if you can hit a 4x4 sheet of plywood at 300 feet 5/10 times I would be suprised. Long Range?

I don't remeber calling you a noob. However if you bought a longbow thinking that it would help your "sniper " game i think the term would fit, if you bought it cause it looks cool i can understand that as well, it does look cool. While the approxmate range of a paintball and there general accuracy are similar, it is the consistancy of each shot and how you shoot, with your marker that will allow you to make better long distance shots than your opponent. I have eliminated players at more than 160 yards, granted it was cold and the paint hit a hard surface (a pod) but yes i adjusted for elevation and wind to make it and yes it was a single shot fired from a sniper 2 on compressed air at 299 fps thru a freak barrel system, shooting zap primer ( a very heavy paint). Do i consider it a sniper shot? No it was a lucky long range shot. Long range shots can be made in paintball, the point i was making was that a blow forward automag (long bow) is going to be a very poor choice for actual long range shots, it deforms the ball to much when they fire. Likewise a lapco, or teardrop smartparts barrel is not the best choice for long range shooting I would say the average player is at best accurate to approximatly 20 yards, with the proper marker, paint, air, and lots of practice you can extend that shot consitantly to about 30 yards, anything beyond that is going to be a lot of luck. Can people make long range shots? Sure imo. Does a true paintball sniper exsist? No. Derek __________________ Paintball has degraded into high speed checkers when it used to be "chess with finesse" - Tom Kaye http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa226/Lobsterlight/funny/pumpsown2.gif Last edited by Derek : 03-02-2006 at 02:51 PM.

here is the defenition of sniper from Wikipedia:
The traditional definition of a sniper is an infantry soldier especially skilled in field craft and marksmanship, who kills selected enemies from concealment with a rifle at long distances. Typically and ideally, a proficient sniper approaches an enemy unaware of his presence, uses a single bullet per target, and withdraws without being seen. The word originates from the snipe, a game bird known for being difficult for hunters to sneak up on. In the last few decades the term 'sniper' has been used rather loosely, especially by media in association with police precision riflemen, those responsible for assassination, any shooting from all but the shortest range in war and any criminal equipped with a rifle in a civil context. This has rather expanded the general understanding of the meaning of the term. It has also given the term 'sniper' distinctly pejorative connotations. This explains the increasing use of alternative terms, especially for police snipers such as counter-sniper, precision marksman, tactical marksman, sharpshooter and precision shooter. so no, there are no true snipers in paintball, but there is a grey area, many of the sniper skills can be put to use by the patient 'baller. __________________ Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. You didn't call me a noob, I was just messing with you. π I agree with you by the very defenition the term "sniper" should'nt even be used in paintball. But gillie suited ambush guy takes to long to say. π You are correct about the markers, closed bolt systems are more accurate. Love them or hate them Special ops had done some good things for PB. Team have been created and positions assigned. A league for woods guys. I bought a Tac one for it's durabilty, low noise and old school feel. It will, like the A5 tak a pounding. I built a q-bow around it cuse I play more woods ball. Not to say I don't like a good game of speed ball. I have no illiusions that marker A can shoot futher than marker B...more accurate sure but not much futher. Personally my marker of choice is a Double trouble with 2 apex barrels Quanity plus distance.....That's my sniper gun. π

yeah I have many guns that i bought just for the cool value. I honestly think that a longbow with a q loader and a 10 inch barrel would rock in a snake in an airball field.

RenΓ© Descartes "I think, therefore I am" -RenΓ© Descartes
A large element of any "Game" is diversion from reality, its all entertainment of one form or another. Entertainment be it sports, a book, movies, music or drugs is a vehicle for us to enjoy extraordinary experiences and refresh our energy to face the daily grind. One of the strong appeals of Woodsball / Scenario play and even weekend recball is that for those precious few hours I become a living dream. I am a hunter of human prey, I am a master of the art of Paint-fu. The enjoyment of being more than yourself without the reminders of reality I call "The suspension of Dis-beleif" In other words if you remove the real life factors that prevent you from enjoying your dream for a short time you can feel that you really are living your dream. If it is some paintballer's dream to play the role of sniper and certain eqipment and play style helps him live his dream then I say... "Rock on man.. Live the Dream" To reword Descartes.. "I think I am a sniper, therefore I am" __________________

Well, except for the long range part, there are people who play as this described. As far as diffrences in equipment, I just can't believe there can be more than a 10% difference in accuracy betwine a mid range marker and the ultra high range. My old spyder compact (with a blank frame) can drive nails at 20 yards if I use a red dot scope. There is just no comparison between trying to aim down the side of a barrel and having a simple dot to line up. Do sniper exist in paintball? kinda sorta. Not in the classical sense, but there are those who strive for the one shot one kill mentality. I know I do at times. Theres nothing better than nailing somebody in the head with one well placed shot (at any range). __________________
