HPA Tanks decertified

If you own a Cross Fire, Mac Dev, or Ignition tank you need to check it and if its made by GCI they it can no longer be filled.

To make things even more fun, GCI has now issued a list of serial numbers that they contend are safe, and stated that they are trying to get the DOT to rewrite the warning to exclude the tanks that GCI claims are safe.

If you have a decertified tank, you might want to contact the manufacturer to see what they are going to do for recalls.

what does it all mean to UXPL?

Does that mean that we wont be allowed to have ANY crossfire or ignition tanks filled at UXPL? or just the decertified dot ones?

It is illegal to fill any tank that has been decertified by the DOT. So the UXPL will not allow any tanks that are currently decertified. So as it stands right now, any tank with the decertified exemption number will not be allowed for use at the UXPL event.

If the DOT rewrites the warning to mark certain tanks as certified, then they will obviously be allowed.

Our shop has been dealing with this issue all week and what we have found is that most of the Crossfire tanks that have come in the shop have been made by SCI and are not part of the decertification.

All Ignition tanks are GCI and decertified at this time.

At the UXPL we will have to check each tank for the manufacturer of the tank, not the reg or reseller but the actual tank itself.

So be prepared to take off all tank covers and have 100% inspection of your tank. This is the same process that the NPPL and PSP use for all events. To date the UXPL has been lax at enforcing tank inspection, we can no longer be lax we must check tanks 100%.

I think we should do what the NPPL does for this UXPL event. We should get our tanks looked at and inspected once and a tag placed on the tank. This would help on air fills and the people doing the air fills and in the long run help shorten the line for the fills.
