Oh

Don't get your panties in to big of a bunch.

Long has the debate raged woods ball v Sppedball. For the good of the sport they are both needed. Be glad there is both kinds of play. It's a good thing the guys with the Tippmans love to play, they spend money on stuff and that helps the sport grow. It good the tourny guys play they spend money and get the attention to the public and the sport grows.

As for the SPPL of course the teams are going to have some tourny players on them. The SPPL is just getting started, there are only a few ogrinized woods ball teams. Good teams and players are needed.
team work and shooting skills plus stratigity will be needed to win the SPPL , Just like the UXPL or NPPL

I wounder how speed ball got started ...a few guys came out of the woods set up some bunkers and pow ...speedball.

I here it all the time I hate woodsball or I hate speedball
Me....I just enjoy paintball where ever it's played.

Take a DEEEP breath! (and put your thinking cap on)

Guys,

Relax! The video is not there to bash on tournament paintballers and the comments made are about the simplicity of the game (tournament) in comparison to playing outdoors (woodsball). Indeed the video is geared toward pumping up woodsplay as an alternative to tournament because the majority of the innovative gear out there today is inspired by tournament play and does not necessarily work best for playing outdoors (super tall guns that are awkward to crawl and shoot in the prone with for extended periods of time, chrome spyders, bright colored jerseys... all that jazz)

Bottom line message of the video: Tournament gear is not the only choice for advanced players of any play style of paintball (woods and scenario included). Woodsball in the minds of the average in the know paintballer is seen as a game for newer players with less complex and expensive gear.

Indeed in some cases this is true however we as a company are looking to change that belief and now the industry giants are starting to see the population they alienated (and the profits they left behind to companies willing to make innovative products to those players) when they jumped on the "tournament is the future of our sport" bandwagon.

We are dedicated to making "high performance" woods gear. And you know what? It's working out VERY WELL for us as the likes of K2 and PMI have been watching us very closely and making products and creating new lines because of the buzz that WE (yes little ole' SpecOPS in Utah) are creating in the industry. How do we know this? Well, all I can say is ... "we know" because "they" told us so.

Now back to the topic when it is said that a game is simple that does not mean that being a good player is simple as well!

Bud Orr, Tom Kaye, and Bob Long have all gone on record saying that they believe the game of woods tournaments were more complex and more planning went into it back in the day. However I would agree that when Robbo (from PGI) says that today’s tournament ballers would spank the woodsballers of yesteryear hands down I would agree! Because the player skill level and technology has advanced in paintball through out the sport regardless of format. However imagine DEDICATED advanced woodsballers (do they really exist? some do but in very small unknown groups) of equal fitness, equipment and practice would KILL a tournament team in their woods. I mean.. it's a no brainer right? As the tournament ballers would KILL the pro-woodsballers on their own tournament field.

Tournament ballers are NOT better than woodsballers. I'll say that again, TOURNAMENT BALLERS ARE NOT BETTER THAN WOODSBALLERS? Why? because the environment in which you play does not determine your skill... however what the paintball industry has done is market and create the belief in players minds that if they (the new player) has above average skills that the only place to go is the tournament route if you want get noticed and sponsored. So with that being presented as the only option... where do you think the best players are going to go? Now... imagine a woods tournament where the prizes were INSANELY HUGE... where do you think all the skilled players are going to go? If one wants to prove what type of player is the best... you can see it's a moot point... the best players go where the fame, money, popularity, sponsorship... blah blah blah is regardless of the format.

I mean... how many ballers out there who have skill stay in the woods? None! Because there is no place for a competitive outlet or even a talented pool to play with and enhance their skills! When the guys from SpecialOPS play out at walk on outlaw games and other woods fields we ALWAYS have to split it up because the advanced guys rarely exist outdoors at these fields... let alone a whole organized team. But then again paintball in Utah is slow in comparison to back east as on average there are about 500 brigade members per 100 square miles when game locator games are broadcasted. By the way, if you have not checked out game locator I suggest you do... there is event a tournament ball icon so you can create tournament games.

The simplicity of tournament ball has been what has raised it to popularity as it's spectator friendly and has continuous series of exciting events over a short period of time. On top of that Mom and Dad can watch what Billy and Suzie are spending all their dang money on. Again simple game yes... easy to be a great player? no way!

So if you’re a tournament baller who feels “dissed” by this video then consider your self a victim of over marketing by an industry once set (and now changing… watch) on advertising the tournament format and gear to be the only COOL way to play. *GASP* People who would think otherwise are obviously dissing tournament!!! *Sarcastic tone*

Nah, the video is just another perspective and opinion on how to play a really fun game of tag.

P.S. For those of you who don’t know me… I am an avid tournament baller and love playing it just as much as the woodsgame. Different game = different gear.

P.P.S= Speaking of skill and tournament ballers my money for SPPL national title is on Derek's team, B.G. Army 😁. My only concern is that people are going to moan and mumble about how a local team (as SpecOPS is out of Utah) won the nationals (held here in Utah). After seeing the competition that is out there so far... it's going to be a bloodbath and B.G. Army will do the spilling, IMHO.

2 great coments by special ops and pale rider. I dont like to play woods ball as much as tournament ball. but know a lot of people who do so every now and then i go out and play some woods ball. I do have to say it does get you heart pounding more not knowing which side the other team is coming from.

I am glad there is a place like spec ops here that i can get some stuff for tournament ball and that helps enter people into the sport. Tournament ball does not enter people as much as woodsball or rec ball.

Woods ball is cool, for everyone that just out right hates it. Ive been to spec ops once and I love the place. I like the descriptions of each position in scenario paintball. it actually gives me more respect for people playing the sppl. It really takes a lot of skill to play just like tournament paintball. just different skills.

i do have to say i dont like it when people bash tournament ball but its there oppinion. but i started in rec ball and woods ball so i wont ever say anything about woodsballers not having as much skill as tournament ballers. woods ball helps the sport and im happy with that.
