Due to recent spamming and denial of service attacts and forum abuse, Utahpaintball.info has been frozen and all data, threads, IP's and PM's been frozen and will undergo investigation with local and federal law enforcement agencies for prosecution.

That's what it says when you go to www.utahpaintball.info now. I haven't the foggiest what sort of abuse they're talking about, but I suspect they'll have a hard time convincing the authorities that spamming a forum is any sort of crime.

Well, good luck to them all the same if they've actually got a legitimate case. For all the crap they pull, it's still one less place for you guys to get together and talk (at least those of you who aren't banned), and that's not good for anybody.

frontplaya04 put up like 5 threads in the tourny and general talk forums about how much better this site is and how the people and utahpb are nazis, i tried to get him to shutup but he didnt really listen, ballisticmidget7 put up some polls saying "rick devey sucks wang" and "this entire site sucks wang"

I would think it needs to be more than that. The site actually says "denial of service attacks ." The amount of posting frontplaya did couldn't have constituted a denial of service attack, because the quantity wasn't all that much, especially compared to the number of posts the site gets on a regular basis.

Now it is entirely possible that someone got a Denial of Service program (a program that constantly accesses a target site, flooding the bandwidth) and started using that. If this is the case, then it is very illegal and prosecuted quite severely. Not only that, but unless the attacker is very technically savy, they can be easily traced as well.

If someone really did use a DOS program against utahpb, then they might want to start looking in to getting a lawyer.

They can't prosecute you for spamming. And the chances of one person launching a denial of service attack against any site and taking it down are extremely remote. Denial of Service attacks require quite a bit of bandwidth in order to drop a site offline, especially if that site is being hosted by a third party hosting provider.

While in many circles DoS attacks are considered easy, they are also considered foolish and destructive. It would be very hard for any of you guys to unintentionally DoS a site. So if you're not a person with a few thousand zombie machines and an antisocial and destructive attitude. Don't worry.
