Anyone gone to BCT/ Just as the title says, has anyone gone to Basic Combat Training and currently or has been in the reserve?
Would you recommend it as a part time job for spare cash? __________________

If you go into the reserve isnt there a possibility you could end up on the front line? Say there was a draft. Wouldnt you end up in Iraq?? Im not sure if thats true.. But if it is put that into thinking...

Bct First and foremost. There won't be a draft. The volunteer and reserve units are well up to the task. There would have to be a sustained and pitched battleground for such a measure. Secondly the reserves are great as a character and leadership builder. Just choose wisely the "rate" or job you would like to pursue. Anyone can pound dirt and dodge bullets. Go into a rate that you can use in the public domain. That way an employer can save money on training and experience. A technical rate is the way to go.

Im currently active duty army and am deployed in Iraq. Chances are regardless of what you enlist in (reserve or active duty) your going to Iraq, no doubts about that. But that doesnt mean its all bad.
Basic training is one of the best things I ever did. Lost of confidence building, working as a team (lots of that) etc... etc... Its crazy but fun at the same time. Be sure you want to sign your life away before you regret it. It can be the best choice for some and the worst for others. Im glad I joined but at the same time Im hating it here in Iraq being away from my daughters and family/friends. Its honestly not for me and its too late for that now. But thats just me. It might be the opposite for you. Just be sure its what you want. If you have any questions feel free to PM me because alot of those recruiters dont tell you a damn thing and you'll end up shipping off to basic and finding out you got hosed.

I have just started checking out the forms on the go army website for more information. So, even if you get a reserve position for accounting or something geeky, per say, like that. The chances to get shipped out to Iraq for a year are high????
Thanks for all your input, keep it coming. __________________

What you have to realize is that its needs of the army which changes constantly. If your thinking reserves or ANG you can try and talk to the units in Utah and see when they deployed last and when they expect to deploy. Talk to actual soldiers not recruiters. Recruiters are all about numbers and soldiers usually have already been screwed so they will tell you straight up how it is.
It also depends on how long you enlist for. And non combat MOS still deploy man. Just make sure if you do enlist to tell the recruiter what you want dont let him tell you what you get. I could have got alot more. Remember there are alot of options. #1 MOS: pick something your going to enjoy and if you can something that will benefit you when you get out of the army (if you choose too). #2 Duty Station: if you go active tell them where you want to go and get it in your contract. #3 Schools: Airborne, Ranger, anything if you want it tell them. Whats the worst that will happen? You walk away and they dont get a recruit.
