if i understand correctly between sumo's post and the spyder website you need to place at a certain level in any qualifiying event and that earns you entry to the championship event. so essentially you only have to play one qualifiying event to play in the championship event. anyone check out the video on the spyder website for last years event? that field layout is oddly simple...

Spyder will hold seven regional paintball events where amateur 3-man teams will compete in a center flag format. The winning team from each of these seven events will be awarded an all expenses paid trip to the Spyder Cup Grand Finale hosted at the NPPL World Championships in San Diego November 14-16th. These seven 3-man teams will compete for three brand new MAZDA3 hatchbacks! An additional $10,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top placing teams at the regional events.

I read that if you win a regional event, your team has an all expense paid trip to the finals. I'm not positive about all the other teams that don't win.
