Light Up the Newbie

Alright,

As embarassing as this is, I might as well tell it. The fourth time I went out we were playing speedball out at Battlegrounds Paintball. We were playing 6 on 6 and our side was doing well (but not quite as well as I thought). We had only lost 2 to their 4 and I knew where the last 2 opponents were. As my teamates lay down a bunch of suppressing fire I moved up to the bunker right in front of the enemy positions, about 10 feet from one and 15 feet from the other. As I slid in, they had both seen me and were calling out my move, I came to rest on a board that ran under the bunker I was hiding behind. I felt the board shift and immediately knew there was someone on the other side. Being quite new to the sport I thought 'gee, I'll just point my marker over the top and offer that player a surrender'.... well in retrospect I didn't put too much thought into it. Apparently my 'next door neighbor' was well aware of my presence too and as I stood up to announce my victory, she (that's right folks, the only girl on the field that day) hit me in the right arm 4 times from about 4 inches away. One of her teamates (who had been cowering behind his bunker for the last 5 minutes) decided at just that time that he was tired of hiding and came out just in time to get me at least twice but in all reality probable 4 or 5 times. As I raised my marker over my head and screamed 'I'm dead', the remaining opponent decided to join in and gave me a few bonus balls to make sure I had learned my lesson well. The only sound worse than the dozen paintballs hitting me from close range was the chorus of 'OOooohhh!!!' from the score of spectators on the sideline who watched the mist of neon pink/blue/green splatter off of me.

And the guy I hit two differnt times later during the day from close range wondered why I didn't offer him a surrender...
