Reffing

There have really been mixed signals sent to us concerning the reffing of this event.

We are commited to fielding the best referee staff possible. Utilizing GOAT wasn't a last minute decision. Players like those on GOAT know exactly what happens and what to watch for, they also have the physical ability to referee all day long. Unfortunatly there is a serious lack of competent judges not just in the moutain west but also nationwide. We recognize this is a serious problem directly associated to the age of tournament paintball as a whole.

You can be sure that team GOAT and James west carry no personal bias for or against any of the teams that participated in the event.

Anticipating and developing the ability to cope with game finishes and run throughs is extremely difficult, we are however working to train our referees to call these as close to right as possible. We will continue to train our referees and get them opportunites to ref more often.

The Captains of Pitch Black, Ground Control, JT's Bruisers and Autopsy personaly told me it was some of the best reffing they had ever had. I take this praise seriously as many of these teams play national level events.

I also recieved a lot of suggestions and criticism, I take all input we receive very seriously. I don't have an ego to get in the way of making an event the best it can be. We have recieved emails ranging from your reffing sucked, to here's exactly what rules you violated and how. I take them all seriously and WILL make sure the next event has even better reffing. It is no secret that my goal is to make the MWXPL the best regional event available to players in the area. The MWXPL will be the leauge where teams will become strong enough to not only compete at national events but win them.

I invite anyone who is interested in reffing or feels they have the talent, time and desire to ref our events to contact James. We pay our refs, provide their meals and help with boarding and travel whenever possible.

reffing

Now don't get me wrong the reffing was pretty good but there was some very controversial calls that boht helped some teams out and hert some teams. I thnak you for your concern and attention to every ones suggests . Also I dont not beleive that the reffing sucked but for the caliber event that you provide better reffing is required. I saw some great calls get made and soem refs did great, including james, however some refs need alot more training to get up to par. Once again thanks for listiening to our conerns.

some of the refs looked as if they have never even played a paintball tournament. Kinda hard to ref paintball when you have no idea whats going on. Its hard to make some calls i know we had to reff it last year, but simple calls that totaly get screwed. Like i said basically just more experienced reffs would be better.

It's always difficult to assess the true quality of reffing when you post things like this. You'll always have to expect responses from the self claiming recipients of "bad calls". Overall I didn't feel the reffing was terribly bad and if some believe it was I see it as an issue of experience more than effort on the part of the Refs.

Along those lines however the scheduling was without doubt the worst I've seen at any event I've ever played. People that know me are aware that that is alot to be said in that I've probably played in a couple hundred events of all types in my 12 year stint. I would like to believe that James' experience as an organizer is the issue, but I'm afraid that this does come down to effort (and organization) in my eyes. He is waiting until the very last minute to create these schedules and not giving himself the time to review them for functionality and reasonableness. He needs to either hold to tighter and earlier enrollment deadlines or create (or buy) a generic scheduling model (within Excel for example) that makes the updating less manual and time consuming.

I have faith that these guys will find a way to handle this issue which became apparent to all at this last event. I'm definately not jumping ship on a potentially great event I just thought I'd share my 2 cents.

The schedualing was the biggest problem at the tournament. James didn't put enough time into the schedual. It wasn't a lack of expirience on a lack of ablity it was straight up a lack of time. You see we had some HUGE obstacles to overcome to make the event even happen considering our loss the week before. We didn't even take delivery on our compressor until 4:30 PM friday night. In addtion we had to completly replace our rigging system for the netting. This took up a ton of time, much more than we had anticipated.

We are in the process of obtaining schedualing software, this will allow for the best possible scheduling at the events, as well as allowing us to get the schedual out sooner.

Finally, if you think James did a poor job on the schedual just be glad I didn't do it, cause I flat out suck at putting scheduals together. Thanks for your input.

I can appreciate the challenges you guys faced for this event and am glad you decided to push through. I've noticed that over the last couple events that scheduling has been an issue and am glad to hear that you're going to attempt to remedy the situation (the more I think about you have had a rough go of it over the last year or two in terms of weather and such, sometimes it's better to be lucky then good). I'm looking forward to the next event and am not trying to take shots...

I sincerely just want to see you succeed!

Thanks Craig,

At the end of the day its the players like yourself that make the league successful. Without your patience and support we'd be nothing. Without your feedback we'd never get better.
