Drive-by paintball shooting hits child in face

A 12-year-old girl waiting to catch the bus after school was hit in the face with a paintball fired from a passing car, and Edmonton police say she was lucky she wasn't blinded.

Police say Kienna Weddell was standing with friends outside her school Wednesday afternoon when the paintball struck just inches from her eye.

"We were just talking and then we heard some bangs and we were looking around, because it sounded like a car backfired. And then something hit my head," Kienna said Thursday. "I didn't see anything and then everything went blank for like three seconds.

"Then my head really hurt and my ears were ringing. It felt like something wet hit my head. It felt really hard. I thought it was a snowball or a rock."

Kienna temporarily lost consciousness.

Police say paintballs can travel at 300 kilometres an hour.

If the offenders are caught – police believe they are teenaged boys – they could be charged with possession and use of a dangerous weapon.

Kienna's father Kevin says parents should be careful of what they purchase for their children.

"If their parents thought that this is the type of kid that would shoot at kids randomly with the paintgun they bought them, I'm sure their parents would have never bought it," Kevin Weddell said. "But they probably don't know that much about their kids."

if you are going to go shoot some harmless pedestrian,
then shoot yourself in the head first with out your mask,
if you decide that it didnt hurt you and certainly wouldnt hurt somebody who has never been hit by a paintball then call the police and tell them where and when you plan on doing this so they can arrest you and then procede to tazer you until you cry like a little girl then beat you sensless with their night sticks

Yet more ammo for the paintball hater. The criminals in these cases really punch my buttons...make me want to do vary bad things to them. Evan during the holidays.

Kids- If you hear someone bragging about this kind of thing, turn them in. They are killing our sport.

It's an act of cowardice. These are the folks that giggle like a two year old that just shit himself while they purchase their gun at Wal-Mart with no intention of ever playing a legal game.

They shoot their house, their dog, their cat, cars, brothers, sisters and random innocent people all in the name of 'It's not real bullets, I was just having fun'.
