Todays Paper!

Idiots! I really dont know what to say, other than there are a few that are going to ruin paintball in Utah for the rest of us.

I just copy and pasted the article from the digital edition, since I cant find it on their regular web-site. Enjoy!

Paintballers target signs along I-84

Vandalism may tie in with closure of state properties

BY BRYON SAXTON
Standard-Examiner Davis Bureau

SOUTH WEBER — Some trigger-happy paintballers — police suspect in retaliation to the state closing off access to their “play area” — have made a mess of a handful of freeway signs along Interstate 84.
Several of the signs along the westbound lanes through South Weber have been shot with paintball pellets, forcing Utah Department of Transportation officials to replace one older sign at a cost between $200 and $500 and playing a wait-and-see game with the others.
“There is one sign that is old that we will replace,” said UDOT spokesman Andy Neff.
Regarding the other signs that have been hit with the pellets containing a water-base paint, Neff said, “(the paint) should just decompose naturally with snow and rain.”
“We anticipate the (winter) precipitation will wash them clean,” he said.
Typically to avoid having to replace road signs, Neff said, state maintenance engineers use a pressurized washer to clean signs that have been vandalized. If winter snow and rain do not remove the markings, officials may have to resort to using the washer in the spring. In the future, UDOT road crews will keep a closer eye on the signs to make sure the vandalism is not a reoccurring theme, Neff said.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul Kotter said the area along the South Weber River is where paintballers at one time played prior to the state closing off public access to those properties it owns along the interstate.
“The recent paintball vandalism may be a repercussion of us taking away people’s play area,” Kotter said.
“We don’t allow any paintballers back there anymore,” he said. “Basically, the fishermen can’t go back there and play either.”
Out of concern for safety in meeting federal highway regulations, Neff said the state closed public access to those areas along the South Weber River, which runs along the north side of the freeway.
“It wasn’t just paintballers or fishermen,” Neff said of the public notice it issued in July.
Public access was closed out of concern for the high volume of traffic pulling off and onto the high-speed interstate. Officials feared it could result in a serious traffic accident and result in potential injury, he said.
The vandalism to the state road signs has occurred since the restrictions were put into effect, Neff said.
“The signs are state property. So, that is technically vandalism,” said UHP Trooper Jeff Nigbur, public information officer for the highway patrol.

sounding off

that's great. Why can't people just grow up. there are other places to play woods ball. If any of you know the perosn or persons that did this let the know that willard city allows play up above the water fall and as long as we pick up our trash at the end of the day they are more then happy to let us use it. I have talked with willard city and county workers in box elder and that is really the only open area they allow us to use. Some players go up to box elder camp ground but that is a closed area don't get cought playing in there. I f you don't want to drive to willard. I am sure the guys of Velocity would be glad to have you stop by there. Guys we need to stop being part of the problem and work with the local officals. if you ask they can help you find an area in or around your towns for play.

Vandals!

The vandals who think that they have a right to distroy, abuse, and tear down the efforts of the good paintballers and promoters need to have their heads examined!!!
It takes years to build up the sport of paintball. These hypocrites who vandalized the signs along I-84 with their paintball markers are smearing the face of paintball. Their actions place negative concepts in local and state officials minds, the same officials that we meet with to expand paintball in this state. No wonder these paintball areas are being shut down.
Many local individuals have tried to put a positive face on paintball by getting good media coverage on the sport. Well, thanks to these vandals, we have just taken a step backwards. The vandals need to be paintballed and feathered in their birthday suits!!!

Velocity Paintball L.L.C. will offer a reward to anyone with information leading to the conviction of the vandals responsible for the paintball vandalism along I-84!

🙄 Why can't people grow up and act responsibly?

If you know who did this, scorn them for us all. They need to feel regret and repentment. Until then...they need to be disowned; banned! I.E. “You knotty so and so. Your not playing with us until you rectify the damage done to our sport.”

Unfortunately, this problem is more wide spread than just I-84--Last week we had someone shoot all of the signs from our field to 900 West--including ours on the corner!!!! I guess they didn't get it all out of their system on the field.

These are the individuals who are giving paintball a bad name. It is up to all of us to be on the lookout for these individuals and report them. I personally WILL press charges if the person is caught. And I suggest the rest of the responsible community do so as well. I think ONE person being caught and dealt with (not just scorned by his fellow players) will slow the problem.

Yeah, we actually just had another instance close to where I live (shooting up houses and signs). Its just really got out of hand, and hopefully we can catch some of these idiots. Thats why Velocity has also offered rewards for anyone with information leading to conviction of these low-lifes.

💡 On the look out

Just an idea try and wait they are probly stupid enough to get them_self caught??????
They will more than likely brag about it or tell there friends so sooner or later they will get caught. I Will also keep an eye out and if you see them dont think shooting them back for what they did is going to get you anywhere because it wont?
