Boys Playing Paintball Shot in North Salt Lake

(KSL News) Terror in a Davis County community when two people open fire on a group of boys paintballing in the hills above North Salt Lake.

Authorities say the suspects are still on the loose and are considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators are still sorting through all the information and looking for a motive.

They say four boys were paintballing just south of the Eaglewood Golf Course in North Salt Lake when a man and woman suddenly appeared and shot one of those boys in the leg.

Witnesses say three to five shots were fired.

Police don't believe the boys knew their attackers.

The suspects took off.

Officers used infra-red technology, a UHP helicopter and search dogs trying to find them, but without success.

The victim was taken to the hospital. He is in good condition this morning.

There is not a clear description of the attackers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Davis County Sheriff's Office or North Salt Lake Police.

I think it's the same general area, but not close enough to be a concern. But I could be wrong since I haven't been out there.

This is scary for the future of our sport. All it takes is one parent with the means to fight a legal battle and push for new legislation banning our sport.

Paintball only makes the news when someone shoots another person with a paintball gun, paintballers get shot while playing or some terrorists train with paintball guns. It's too bad they don't do a little more research into the sport and interview those that wish to promote the sport and make it safe.

Responsibility, teamwork, and dedication aren't newsworthy. But that makes sense in a way, because most people are responsible, decent people, so it's not notable when people do the right thing, only when they do the wrong thing.

Unless it's a slow news day, because they've got to fill that 30 minutes.

This story in the news shouldn't affect out sport in anyway becuase it didn' t have anything to do with it. It had do to with some random dumb ass who that it would be great to go and shoot some kids with a real gun. It just so happens they were palying paintball, they could have been doing any sport and the dumb ass still could have shoot somebody.

The article does make a good point noting that the shooters might have been acting in self defence. However, from what the story says "a man and woman suddenly appeared from behind a corner and started shooting..." This type of action would not indicate self defence. Unless they where actualy being shot at and being threatned directly this could in no way be construed as self defence.

I am somewhat versed on Utah's gun laws, and they are quite clear that use of a firearm to defend yourself is the last recourse. It would seem to me that the couple has pleanty of time to go the other direction.

They may have thought that two gangs where shooting it out or something, but that is no excuse to try and kill them yourself.
